Abstract

The paper examines scientific and methodological approaches to the transformation of the textile and fashion industries based on the principles of the circular economy, driven by increasing pressure on natural resources, the intensification of environmental challenges, and the growing scale of textile waste. The relevance of the study is determined by the need to reconsider the prevailing linear model of production and consumption and to develop more sustainable and resource-efficient alternatives. The research focuses on key drivers of structural change in the industry, including shifts in consumer behavior, the acceleration of production cycles, and the impact of digitalization on production and distribution processes. Particular attention is paid to the conceptual foundations of circular transformation, including the rethinking of product life cycles, the extension of product use, and the integration of sustainability-oriented practices into business strategies. The study highlights the role of institutional and regulatory frameworks in shaping the conditions for circular development, as well as the importance of technological innovation and new organizational solutions. It considers the evolution of business models towards more service-oriented and platform-based approaches that integrate production, consumption, and reuse within interconnected systems. The discussion also addresses the emergence of alternative consumption practices, such as repair, resale, rental, and other forms of extended product utilization, which contribute to reducing resource intensity and environmental pressure. In addition, attention is given to the challenges associated with the implementation of circular principles, including technological constraints, economic feasibility, and behavioral factors influencing both producers and consumers. The paper emphasizes the necessity of a comprehensive approach that integrates production, consumption, and waste management into a unified system aimed at preserving value and improving resource efficiency. The transformation of the textile and fashion industries is interpreted as a complex and multi-level process that requires coordination among stakeholders, adaptation of existing practices, and the development of new mechanisms supporting sustainable development.
