The article analyses the potential and methodological aspects of introducing virtual exchanges into the process of foreign language training of students of technical specialities. In the context of globalisation and digitalization of education, virtual exchanges are becoming increasingly important as a tool for intercultural communication, professional growth and language skills development. In the context of the article, there is a need for a comprehensive analysis of the methodology of virtual exchange, its impact on the development of professional competencies, intercultural communication, and readiness to work in an international environment. These projects allow students to collaborate with students from other countries in international virtual exchanges, solving real professional problems. Particular attention is paid to models of exchanges such as COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) and telecollaboration, which ensure the development of intercultural competence and key professional skills. The study is based on the analysis of scientific literature, documents, and interviews with teachers who have implemented such projects. Based on the analysis of the scientific literature, the benefits of virtual exchanges are identified: broadening of the worldview, improvement of communication skills, preparation for work in a globalized world, development of professional competencies and technical skills. At the same time, key challenges are identified, including technical problems, language barriers and the need for teacher training. The main stages of preparing and conducting virtual exchanges are highlighted. The results of the study show that for the effective implementation of virtual exchanges, it is necessary to provide high-quality methodological training for teachers, integrate these projects into educational programmes, and create a national platform for coordinating exchanges. Equally important is the choice of relevant topics for projects, as well as the possibility of their scalability and long-term impact on the educational process. These recommendations are aimed at developing key competencies in students as future professionals capable of working in an international environment.
