Abstract

The article examines the essence of correctional and educational work in special general secondary education institutions for children with special educational needs. It emphasizes that correctional and educational work is an integral part of the correctional-pedagogical process, playing an important role in both modern global and domestic education. The article highlights that correctional and educational work encompasses a wide range of tasks: from diagnosing individual developmental characteristics to implementing special measures aimed at overcoming or mitigating impairments, developing compensatory mechanisms, and forming essential life skills. The goal of correctional and educational work is the restoration and development of cognitive and emotional- volitional processes in children with special educational needs, ensuring their maximum adaptation in society, fostering positive personality traits, flexible adaptation to changed conditions, and correction of cognitive and emotional-volitional spheres, as well as the formation of adequate self-esteem.The article analyzes the main principles and methods of implementing correctional measures, taking into account the psychophysical characteristics of students, such as slowed perception, narrow field of perception, and difficulties in identifying relationships between objects. It discusses the necessity of applying correctional and educational work to address developmental deficiencies in cognitive functions and abilities of children with intellectual disabilities. Special attention is given to correcting deficits in cognitive functions, motor skills, forming social behavior skills, and teaching children to follow rules in everyday life. The importance of combining consciousness, feelings, and behavior in the educational process is emphasized, as well as the importance of systematically forming the habit of adhering to behavioral norms. The effectiveness of education depends on organizing practical activities where children can use and reinforce the verbal information received. The article stresses the need for consistency in following basic requirements, stabilizing students' behavior, and supporting positive emotions through praise. A key condition for successful correctional and educational work is the involvement of all participants in the educational process.
