LINGUISTIC CORPORA IN THE PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE OF UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE TEACHERS IN KYIV

Abstract

The article examines the role of text corpora in the professional activity of Ukrainian language and literature teachers in general secondary education institutions in Kyiv. The relevance of the topic is determined by the need to modernize the methodology of teaching the Ukrainian language in the context of the digitalization of education and the growing demand for the implementation of innovative linguodidactic tools.A review of scholarly sources dedicated to the use of the corpus-based approach in language education has been carried out, along with an empirical study conducted through a questionnaire survey of Ukrainian language teachers in Kyiv. The survey results indicate that teachers are generally familiar with the concept of a «linguistic corpus» and have some experience in using corpora in their professional activities, mainly for searching examples of language unit usage, preparing educational materials, and checking the correctness of word usage.At the same time, a number of barriers have been identified that hinder the active use of corpus technologies in the educational process: lack of time, insufficient understanding of the methodological potential of corpora, technical difficulties, and the absence of guidelines and support. Corpus linguistics offers effective tools for working with authentic language material, which supports the implementation of the principle of scientificity in education, the development of students’ research skills, and the enhancement of their critical thinking and language competence. The didactic advantages of the corpus- based approach are identified: the ability to implement the functional-communicative principle of teaching, to develop research competence, and to increase the relevance of educational materials. The main functions and advantages of corpus linguistics in the educational process are outlined. The article describes the specifics of using electronic text corpora to improve the effectiveness of teaching the Ukrainian language, and substantiates the need to integrate corpus technologies into the school curriculum and teacher training. In conclusion, the authors emphasize the importance of systematically implementing corpus technologies into teacher education, as well as developing methodological recommendations for the effective use of corpora in school-based language and literature education.
