STATE OF HUNGARIAN-SPEAKING EDUCATION IN TRANSCARPATHIA: PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS

The article analyzes the current state, key problems and prospects for the development of Hungarian- language education in Transcarpathia in the context of reforming the educational policy of Ukraine, in particular the Law “On Education” (2017, as amended in 2023). Key factors influencing the educational process are identified: Ukrainian-Hungarian political relations, the socio-economic state of the region, the quality of education and employment prospects1. Based on statistical data and sociological assessments (2001–2024), the demographic dynamics of the Hungarian community and its correlation with the student contingent are examined. The trend of the transition of secondary education from state to private subordination is shown, its predicted consequences are shown, and the results of the 2024 NMT are analyzed, which indicate low motivation of young people to enter Ukrainian higher education institutions and a significant outflow of graduates abroad22. The state of higher education (UzhNU, ZIFR II) and changes in the student contingent were studied. It was found that, despite the reduction in the number of students, the education system retains stability and potential, but requires policy correction to increase youth integration and competitiveness.
