THE GREEN ECONOMY IN THE CONTEXT OF UKRAINE'S EUROPEAN INTEGRATION

Abstract

The transition to a green economy has become one of the key priorities of Ukraine's sustainable development and an important part of its European integration process. Despite the challenges caused by the full-scale war, Ukraine continues implementing environmental reforms, improving climate policy, and adapting national legislation to the requirements of the European Union. This paper focuses on the development of the green economy in Ukraine in the context of European integration. Particular attention is paid to the implementation of the European Green Deal and its role in shaping national environmental and climate policy. The paper considers the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving energy efficiency, expanding the use of renewable energy sources, and introducing modern approaches to environmental management. The relevance of climate neutrality and sustainable use of natural resources is also emphasized. The study examines the main directions of Ukraine's adaptation to European environmental standards and climate policy. Attention is given to the harmonization of national legislation with EU requirements, the development of renewable energy, the modernization of the energy sector, and the introduction of mechanisms supporting the green transition. The paper also highlights the importance of environmentally oriented reconstruction and the integration of sustainable development principles into national economic policy. Special attention is devoted to current challenges related to the implementation of the green transition under wartime conditions. The paper discusses the need for investment, technological modernization, international cooperation, and effective public policy aimed at supporting environmental initiatives. The issues considered in this study are relevant for Ukraine's further movement toward the European Union and for ensuring balanced economic and environmental development in the future. The research also confirms that the effective implementation of green economy principles requires a comprehensive approach that combines institutional reforms, technological innovation, financial support, and close cooperation with European partners. The practical significance of the study lies in identifying the key priorities and prospects for Ukraine's green transition, which may serve as a basis for further scientific research and the development of public policies aimed at achieving sustainable economic growth and environmental protection.
