Selected indicators of the quality of life of internally displaced persons in Transcarpathian Region: according to the results of a sociological study

Purpose: to study the impact of forced resettlement caused by the war against Russian military aggression on the quality of life of IDPs. Materials and methods. Object of research: the impact of forced resettlement on certain indicators of the quality of life of IDPs in the Transcarpathian region. Materials of research: the results of a sociological study among 237 IDPs in the Transcarpathian region. During the study, the National Matrix of Indicators of the Quality of Life of the Population in Ukraine was used, which was adapted to the purpose of the study. The turnout of respondents was 59.25 %. Methods of research: bibliosemantic, sociological, medicostatistical, of structural-and-logical analysis. During the study, the confidentiality of information about respondents was preserved. The study was conducted in the first quarter of 2026. The processing of the results was carried out with the application of generally accepted methods of medical statistics as well as quantitative and qualitative analysis. Results. The analysis of the data obtained in the course of the study indicates the following level of employment and economic activity of the interviewed IDPs: – more than 60 % of respondents of working age have various forms of employment, while 19.8 % cannot find a job for more than 12 months; – 9.7 % of respondents believe that it is easy to find a job with satisfactory pay and appropriate qualifications in the settlement; – 45.9 % believe that it is easy to find a job in a settlement with satisfactory wages, but without appropriate qualifications; – 9.3 % of respondents believe that they can comfortably live on their income, 45.9 % define their income as providing other needs in addition to food, while 30.4 % of respondents consider themselves poor. The analysis of the data obtained in the course of the study on the housing section indicates the following: – 31.2 % of respondents live in dormitories, 41.0 % – in rented housing and only 9.3 % of respondents have their own housing; – 40.9 % of respondents indicated that the housing in which they temporarily live is equipped with basic amenities, 17.7 % – meets modern standards, and 22.4 % – does not meet sanitary standards; – 74.3 % indicated satisfaction with living in the settlement of the place of forced resettlement; – 45,1 % of respondents are completely satisfied with the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of their housing during forced resettlement. The analysis of the data obtained during the study in the health section indicates the following: – respondents rated their own health as excellent in 9.7 %, as good in 49.8 %, as bad in 40.5 %, while 55.7 % of respondents indicated deterioration in health during forced resettlement, 30.4 % indicated that they were diagnosed with chronic non-communicable diseases during resettlement; – during the forced resettlement, 16.5 % of respondents began to smoke, 10.1 % – to abuse alcoholic beverages, and 2.9 % – to use psychoactive substances; – during the forced relocation, 40.5 % of respondents were registered at the family doctor, for 53.6 % of the necessary medical care is enough, and 17.3 % were not always able to visit a doctor if necessary. Conclusions. The analysis of the data obtained in the course of the study indicates a decrease in the level of general satisfaction in all components of the quality of life of internally displaced persons. The highest levels of decrease in overall satisfaction were detected by the following components of the quality of life: economic condition (–7.4 times), level of personal security (–5.9 times), quality of family life (–4.6 times), quality of private life (–3.5 times). The level of satisfaction with their lives among respondents decreased by 2.9 times: from 67.1 % to 22.8 %.
