KOREAN TRADITIONAL ARCHERY: HISTORY AND MODERN STATE

Abstract

The relevance lies in the systematization of knowledge about Korean traditional archery as a form of motor activity, since there is little information in the Ukrainian segment on the Internet in this area. The purpose of the work is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the features of the formation and development of Korean traditional (national) archery. Periodization of the origin and development of Korean traditional archery is proposed. It has been established that Koreans widely use traditional archery in all spheres of life: as a motor activity, sports, religious and ceremonial rites, a way of entertainment, etc. It is emphasized that the use of bow and arrows has become traditional. It was revealed that Korean traditional archery is recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of Koreans. It has been established that traditional Korean archery is now widely used as a means of physical activity and sport for the physical development of the population and preservation of the nation's cultural heritage. In particular, classes are held in institutions of general and extracurricular education, traditional sajong halls, etc. The article describes the main types of Korean bows and arrows. It has been established that the most popular bow in Korean traditional shooting is the gakun (horn bow) – a unique C-shaped bow that, with an unstretched string, has its ends bent in the other direction. Traditional Korean bows and arrows are made using natural materials (wood, bamboo, tendons and animal horns), but today they can also use synthetic materials. The types of shooting that are practiced even now are characterized. It has been established that Korean archery is divided into horse and foot. In turn, the horse-archery is divided by the type of targets into two blocks: with static and dynamic (moving target). The work describes the types of competitions in Korean traditional archery. So, with a static target there are single shot, double shot and series of shots competitions, and with a dynamic one – two variations of mogu.
