SEASONAL RHYTHM OF DEVELOPMENT OF SCHOENOPLECTIELLA MUCRONATA (L.) J. JUNG & H. K. CHOI EX SITU IN THE RIGHT-BANK FOREST-STEPPE OF UKRAINE

Abstract

The paper presents the results of phenological observations of Schoenoplectiella mucronata (L.) Jung & H.K. Choi, a species first introduced to the conditions of the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. The research was conducted over four years in the National Dendrological Park «Sofiyivka» of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. For the first time, the peculiarities of the seasonal rhythm of plant development were clarified, and the dates of occurrence of individual phenophases and their duration were determined. It has been established that under conditions of introduction, plants sequentially undergo all the main phases of development, which are characterized by regular flowering, fruiting and the ability to self-seed. The vegetation period of S. mucronata begins on 9 May (σ - 2.29; V- 1.77 %) and ends on 1 November (σ - 5.21, V - 1.71 %), with a total duration of 175 days (σ - 10.47 days, V - 6%). Flowering occurs in late June – early August and lasts about 40 days (σ - 6.97, V - 17.44%). The fruits begin to ripen in late July and fall off on 6 October (σ - 6.80 days, V - 2.43%). Research has shown that despite its high conservation status in Ukraine, the species studied ex situ in the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine is characterised by high ecological plasticity and acclimatisation capacity.
