THE DEVELOPMENT OF SCIENTIFIC WRITING CULTURE OF HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS BY MEANS OF A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Abstract

Globalization imposes new requirements on the professional training of future specialists, a necessary component of which is foreign language speech competence. The article attempts to analyze effective methods of forming a culture of scientific writing among higher education students by means of a foreign language. The authors explain the basic concept of "scientific writing culture" for the conducted research, which should be considered as a complex of linguistic, stylistic and communicative skills that ensure the creation of texts that meet the norms of scientific style and the requirements of the academic community. The importance of a foreign language for the formation of scientific writing culture is revealed, which has significant didactic potential, since it involves working with authentic scientific texts, academic vocabulary, typical language structures and compositional models of scientific genres. The use of exercises is characterized as one of the most effective methods of developing scientific writing culture among higher education students. The authors provided examples of exercises, namely: exercises for developing of students skills to recognize and distinguish basic terms of academic writing, the ability to operate academic vocabulary in English correctly and awareness of the differences between types of sources and methods of reference, exercises for understanding the rules of punctuation when writing scientific texts and citations. It is proven that the system of exercises contributes to the formation of terminological literacy, analytical and practical skills of academic writing, the development of skills in working with scientific sources and adherence to the principles of academic integrity, ensures the conscious use of references, the correct design of the bibliography and the correct paraphrasing of foreign-language scientific texts. It is noted that to achieve maximum efficiency, it is important to correctly select and integrate materials into the educational process.
